The Woodpecker Girl | 啄木鸟女孩
Author: 刘清彦 /姜义村 Illustrator: 海蒂朵儿
From: Taiwan
The Woodpecker Girl is an inspirational picture book about a little girl who was born with cerebral palsy, a condition that rendered her wheelchair bound. One day, her art teacher helped to affix a paintbrush to her forehead with a headband. From then, the little girl was able explore the world freely in her mind.
She loves art and through it, her imagination took her to places, just like a woodpecker that flies freely everywhere. It reminds us that where physical disabilities may limit us, our minds are stronger and not bounded by physical boundaries. This book is based on a true story. The illustrator has also cleverly weaved the woodpecker girl’s paintings into the story’s illustrations. It’s a book suitable for all ages, children and adults.
